Stomatopod Images

Hemisquilla ensigera by Jim Hazen

This image clearly shows the relatively blocky body of this fascinating critter, as well as the distinctive bluish tint of its legs. This was taken next to the Valiant wreck at Santa Catalina Island, California, USA during daytime at a depth of 100 feet (~30 m). The photographer notes that the animal being out and away from its burrow during daytime is rare.
