Survey of mantis Rissoides desmaresti

I am just about to start a survey of the mantis shrimp Rissoides desmaresti in the Solent, between Isle of Wight and mainland England.

Records of the species from the area go back to the 1830s, and in the last 20 years there have been a number of reports from oyster fishermen.

There is very little information on this species from British waters. We are keen to confirm or otherwise its association with eel grass (Zostera spp.). Should sucfficient animals be found, we are hoping to determine something about feeding ecology, habitat and breeding biology

I would very much like to hear from anyone who has knowledge of this species, perhaps from southern Europe. In particular, experience of methods of capture; using crab/shrimp traps buoyed out in the bay has been sugested - any ideas.

Many thanks
