Taeniatherum caput-medusae (Medusahead grass) Identification

Pulang ---> Taeniatherum caput-medusae --> ID

It's actually fairly easy to identify this species.

(1) Medusahead has very distinctive awns, similar to the snakes filled head of the fabled Medusa

A few other species such as Elymus elymoides and Hordeum spp. can be confused with it, but an easy check would be to look at the upper awns.

T. caput-medusae has very long upper awns relative to the lower awns, and these are frequently crossed with each other.

(2) It typically forms dense golden thatches as it is an annual

(3) It usually has shallow roots and can be easily pulled out of soil.
